Zack believes this may finally be his chance to win her, but can Mollie ever accept this man and his whirlwind effect on her life, especially with her treasured company on the line?
Ever since reading the amazing Against the Tide in less than 12 hours on the day after Christmas, I’ve been an Elizabeth Camden fan. I’m an even bigger one after having read Into the Whirlwind.
I read this book over a weekend spent with a girlfriend at the beach–a weekend where I very well could have gone without reading anything. Instead, I stayed up way too late reading about Mollie and Zack running through a burning Chicago.
This is one of those books of which I read every line slowly (and sometimes more than once) so I can treasure the cadence of the sentences and the impeccable way the author pulls off the intriguing story. And was it ever intriguing! From Chicago in flames to the struggle to procure a market for opulant watches to the man introduced later in the story who at first seems like more of a hero than the hero…Into the Whirlwind was a beautiful read–one I’m looking forward to picking up again.
I felt like the ending could have wrapped up Mollie’s need for security more. Maybe because I relate to her struggle (guilty as charged), I wanted her to make peace with God about that in some tangible, readable way. But perhaps the way she does come to view security and her need of it (as an impediment to the love both God and Zack offer) is intended to be more subtle than that–and that’s okay, too.
Even with that small note about the ending being looser than I expected, it still was done in a lovely way. Without giving too much away, I really, really liked the last chapter. Sweet without being sappy, it shows a different side of Zack–and rounds out Mollie’s character wonderfully.
