But just as everything Amaryllis has recently hoped for comes to fruition, it all falls apart when she finds that the real culprit who has been managing her life isn’t who she thought at all.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, namely because the cover is gorgeously intriguing…and I thought maybe the pink meant the story would be mainly sweet. But there was just something darkly enchanting about that estate in the background, you know?
What I found inside this gorgeous cover is even more beautiful. Amaryllis I would not describe as sweet. Determined to achieve the life she wants–and once lost–she decides to do away with the plan others have for her. Marriage. Acceptance into society.
All she wants to do is go home.
Then Nathan Everstone falls in love with her. I thought I wouldn’t like Nathan at first, honestly. I say that because he seemed quite insistent on finding Amaryllis captivating, and so I wondered if perhaps I wasn’t intended to like him, if he might turn out to be a villain or something later on.
How wrong I can be. :)
Far from the villain, Nathan proves himself the hero on a number of occasions. Without giving too much away, I’ll admit he’s kind and won my respect after but a few chapters. Amaryllis took a little longer to admit she liked him, which was fun to watch. Really, I think it’s great writing on Dawn’s part that first I doubted him. Because Amaryllis was against him, I was, too. That was neat.
I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the Everstone Chronicles!
About the Author
A graduate of Taylor University with a degree in Christian Education, and a former bookseller at Barnes & Noble, Dawn Crandall didn’t begin writing until her husband found out about her long-buried dream of writing a book. Without a doubt about someday becoming traditionally published, he encouraged her to quit her job in 2010 in order to focus on writing The Hesitant Heiress. It didn’t take her long to realize that writing books was what she was made to do. The Everstone Chronicles is Dawn’s first series with Whitaker House. All three books in the series were semifinalists in ACFW’s prestigious Genesis Writing Contest, the third book going on to become a finalist in 2013.
