John was life’s smile, but now he was gone…
This beautiful book made me cry and laugh (sometimes on the very same page!).
I love it when stories are so well-written and full of beauty that they make me feel that deeply and think about the lessons the main characters are learning. That’s exactly what happened here.
Kathryn’s story was so endearing ~ I was pulled into the plot from the very beginning by how strong and independent and well-developed she seemed. Right down to her shoe size, Kathryn was her own person…and loving John made her an even better person.
But then, she lost him…
The book begins with Kathryn as a recent widow, still grieving, upset with God, and struggling to see the point of going on. The Christmas bracelet encourages her to relive her life story, and I loved the intimate look at how Kathryn and John fell in love, raised their children, and battled life’s storms.
But it was the ending that did it for me. I spent an evening on the back porch, my eyes racing the failing sun, cruising to the climax of this story, which was just so very lovely and appropriate and fitting to how God really does work in our lives to bring us to Him.
I heartily recommend this book because of the stunning picture of life and love presented within its pages. I have the privilege of knowing the author, knowing the labor invested in this story, and of having been able to read some of the pre-published pages — it’s truly a blessing to have finally read Kathryn’s full story!
Readers of contemporary fiction will love The Christmas Bracelet, a story of real life and redemption.
