Take a peek at my Goodreads profile and you’ll see I read Inspirational Romances. A lot of them. They’re easily my favorite genre…and when asked why I love ’em so much, here’s the answer I give.
The Heroine
The leading lady who walks with an elegance a la Jacqueline Kennedy. The princess who’s selfless. The maid with ambition. The farm girl.
She comes in different skirts and shoes, but every heroine in every romance I’ve ever loved always catches my eye for one reason and one reason only…She reminds me of me. Or at least of the me I want to be. In short, she inspires.I find her relatable, likeable, like someone I’d love to have for a friend.
I chuckle when she laughs (and she always has a great sense of humor, which is funny (get it?) ’cause I make the corniest jokes). I cry when she cries (and I know exactly what buttons pushed result in a Kleenex blitz). I sigh when she sighs–and that’s usually over…
The Hero
The cowboy with a heart bigger than his home state. The prince learning how to wield a sword. The broken soldier. The pirate.
He comes in different suits and Stetsons, but every hero in every romance I’ve ever loved always catches my eye for one reason and one reason only…He reminds me of Jesus. Oh, he’s never perfect (the romances with perfect heroes I never like), but if he’s any kind of hero at all he’s something like the greatest Hero of all. In short, the hero makes me fall for Jesus all over again.
I find him gentle, strong-as-all-get-out, like Someone I fell for years ago.I love that. When I learn something or remember something about Jesus’ character because it’s modeled in the hero in a romance. Which leads me to…Siri Mitchell became one of my favorite authors with The Messenger. Read my review here.
The Happily Ever After
Hope. It’s all about hope.
I’ve been told I have the rosiest glasses ever, but I thoroughly believe in happily ever afters. My faith in them has been shaken (recently, actually), but shaking usually stops after a while and churns out better smoothies, so I’m going with that.In short, romances inspire me.
Not to become all dewy-eyed and lovesick, but to aspire to be the best heroine in my story and remember Who my True Hero is.

I just came across your site through the Christmas 2015 giveaway – I took a writing class from Dina. What you say is exactly why I like to read (and write) romance…
